Patrick Black
An avid music enthusiast from his early years while attending Kingston College in Kingston Jamaica in the mid- 60’s, he was influenced by his association with fellow students who shared a similar passion for music. His peers and music mentors were long standing music collectors and DJ’s operating under the sound name of CAPOTONE DISCO (DJ DaveBrenty) which had a faithful following of party supporters including girls from the local high schools and businesses including commercial banks. It was evident then, that in addition to studies, his extra-curricular focus was in the right place.
The music of the time featured great artists like Alton Ellis, Leroy Sibbles and the Heptones, Impressions, Dells to name a few. After leaving school, Patrick maintained close association with his friends and continued his musical interest. Driven by the early influences, he eagerly started his own unique vinyl collection in 1980 and later transitioned from collecting music on vinyl to CD’s impressed with the new sound qualities and armed with an aggressive seek and find attitude to fulfill his musical appetite. He travelled extensively throughout the US and UK listening to radio and sound system DJ’s of the era learning the musical style from New York radio shows with great names like Frankie Crocker and Vaughn Harper collecting so to speak - “old school and new school music” to build his inventory.
It was while attending some of the various high profile clubs in Kingston back in the days, he met up with popular late night radio jock – Hol Plummer of the then ‘FAME FM’ and had an opportunity of a lifetime with a brief, but memorable 2 hr DJ session on a Valentines Day Saturday night. This fueled his desire to become a radio DJ, a dream which still lingers deep. He has a strong appreciation for all musical genre, but is lover of the R&B soul sound.
His hobbies are Badminton, Tennis and Football.
